Textured Tablet Case

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 8.5″ tall and 5.5″ wide

Gauge: 5 sts and 5 rows = 1” in pattern after wet blocking

Materials

Yarn: Valley Yarns Valley Superwash DK (100% Extrafine Merino; 137 yards [125 meters]/50 grams): 08 Copper (MC), 2 balls; 02 Steel Gray (CC), 1 ball

Hook: US size G/6 (4.0 mm) hook

Notions: Tapestry needle

Special Stitches

Tr/rf2tog: Yo twice, insert hook in indicated st, yo, draw loop through, yo, draw through 2 loops, yo twice, insert hook around stem of indicated st, yo, draw loop through, yo, draw through 2 loops, yo, draw through rem loops.

Tr/rf (raised treble crochet at front of the fabric): Yo twice, insert hook around stem of indicated st, yo, draw loop through, (yo, draw through 2 loops) twice.

Picot single crochet (Psc): Insert hook, yo, draw loop through, (yo, draw through 1 loop) 3 times, yo, draw through both loops on hook. Draw picot chain loops to front of work.

Pattern Notes

The Tablet Case is worked in one piece and seamed up the sides. The Flap and Tab are worked separately in a contract color and sewn in place using either the MC or CC.

Pattern

Tablet Case

With MC, fsc 23, turn.
Rows 1-2: Ch 1, sc in each st across to end of row, turn. (23 sc)

Row 3 (RS): Ch 1, sc in next 3 sts, *Psc in next st, sc in next 3 sts; rep from * to end of row, turn.

Row 4 (WS): Ch 3, dc in each st across row, turn. (23 sc)

Row 5: Ch 1, sc in first st, *Psc in next st, sc in next st**, tr/rf2tog over next st inserting hook around 2nd sc 2 rows below for first leg and around following 4th sc for 2nd leg (skipping 3 sts between each leg), sc in next st; rep from * across, ending last rep at ** in top of tch, turn.

Row 6: Ch 2, dc in each st across row, turn. (23 sc)

Row 7: Ch 1, sc in first st, tr/rf over next st inserting hook around top of first raised cluster 2 rows below, *sc in next st, Psc in nest st, sc in next st**, tr/rf2tog over next st inserting hook around same cluster as last raised st for first leg and around top of next raised cluster for 2nd leg; rep from * across, ending last rep at ** when 2 sts rem, tr/rf over next st inserting hook around top of same cluster as last raised st, sc into top of tch, turn.

Row 8: Ch 2, dc in each st across row, turn. (23 sc)

Row 9: Ch 1, sc in first st, *Psc in next st, sc in next st**, tr/rf2tog over next st inserting hook around top of first raised cluster 2 rows below for first leg and around top of next raises cluster for 2nd leg, sc in next st; rep from * across, ending last rep at ** in top of tch, turn.

Rep Rows 6-9, 12 more times or until piece measures approximately 8” from foundation ch.
Next Row: Ch 1, sc in each st across to end of row, turn. (23 sc)

Rep last row twice more.

Fasten off.

Flap

With CC, ch 24.

Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across row, turn. (23 hdc)

Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in next 22 hdc, 2 hdc in last hdc, turn. (24 hdc)

Row 3: Ch 2, 2 hdc in first st, hdc in each hdc across row, turn. (25 hdc)

Row 4: Ch 2, hdc in next 23 sts, hdc2tog, turn. (24 hdc)

Row 5: Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc in each st across to end of row. (23 hdc)

Fasten off.

Tab

With CC, ch 14.

Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across row, turn. (13 hdc)

Rows 2-3: Ch 1, hdc in each st across row.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Block each piece.

Assembly

Fold the Tablet Case in half with WS together. Working through both layers of fabric, sl st side seams closed.

Position Flap and Tab, sew in place, using photo as guide.

Weave in all ends.yarn ball
